In this workers' compensation case, Jerry Slaughter was exposed to chlorine gas on November 17, 2004,1 during the course and scope of his employment with appellee, the City of Hampton. On December 22, he was admitted to the hospital, where testing revealed that he was infected with the HIV virus and that he also had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the form of emphysema.
