Petitioner David Gecht ("Gecht") was convicted of first-degree murder during a jury trial in March of 2000. The trial judge sentenced him to 45 years in prison. He is currently in the custody of the State of Illinois Department of Corrections and is incarcerated at the Pontiac Correctional Center.
