The matter before the court is a petition for the appointment of a temporary guardian of Baby Boy W. with authority to make medical decisions for W. pursuant to SCPA 1750-b. That section was just added to article 17-A by the Legislature, effective March 16, 2003 (L 2002, ch 500, § 3).
