On April 5, 2001, the defendant-appellant Vincent Cheavious was indicted for the first-degree murder of Charlotte Cheavious wherein he had the specific intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm on more than one person. The defendant entered a dual plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity at his arraignment on April 10, 2001.
