In May 2001, a jury found the defendant, Courtney Hubbard, guilty of one count each of attempt (first-degree murder) (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 9-1(a)(1) (West 2000)) and aggravated criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12-13(a)(1), 12-14(a)(8) (West 2000)).
