In this case, Petitioner John W. Pierson drove over a seventeen-foot embankment into a gravel pit when the roadway on which he was traveling abruptly ended. His vehicle landed on its roof, and he sustained injuries. The property where the gravel pit was located was owned by Donald C. and Nellie L. Neal, and was under lease to Montrose County.
