Defendant Christopher Lippard was tried before a jury at the 21 July 2000 Criminal Session of Haywood County Criminal Superior Court after being charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder. Evidence for the State showed defendant met Chad Watt in mid-September 1999. On the morning of 29 September, defendant and Watt had been drinking and looking for marijuana.
