Robert D. Speedy, acting as a union steward, accompanied two female employees of the Rexnord Corporation ("Rexnord") to file sexual discrimination complaints against a Rexnord supervisor. Within a month of his action, Speedy was suspended for excessive absenteeism, and eventually terminated. Speedy filed suit in the district court alleging that he had been discharged in retaliation for his participation in activities protected under Title VII....
