A jury found appellant Jimmy Ray Shelton guilty of the attempted capital murders of Brian Garvel, an Elgin police officer, and Julius Matus, a Williamson County deputy sheriff, and sentenced him to ninety-nine years' confinement. See Tex.Penal Code Ann. §§ 15.01, 19.03(a)(1) (West 1994).
