The petitioners appeared before the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Islip (hereinafter the ZBA) at a public hearing on March 21, 2000, pursuant to their application to obtain three variances from the zoning code with respect to their residence. One of the requested variances concerned a cellar entranceway, for which there was an outstanding code violation for an illegal apartment in the cellar of the petitioners...
