SCHULTHEIS, J.

Miguel Barragan was convicted of first degree assault for stabbing a fellow inmate with a pencil. On appeal he contends the trial court erred in admitting evidence of prior assaults and in giving the jury an instruction defining "deadly weapon." He also argues he had ineffective assistance of counsel. Finding no error, we affirm.
