CARNES, Circuit Judge:

After filing two administrative grievances alleging that prison officials had denied him necessary medical treatment Raymond Brown, a Georgia prisoner, filed this 42 U.S.C. § 1983 action, which also claimed he had been denied medical treatment. He named as defendants in the lawsuit the warden of his prison, Johnny Sikes, and various "Doe" defendants. Brown eventually identified Wayne Garner, who was then Commissioner of the Georgia Department...
