BOWMAN, Judge.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., on August 26, 1996, Timothy Swart found his seventy-year-old mother, Clara, tied to a wooden chair on the kitchen floor of her Clermont County home. Mrs. Swart's hands had been tied behind her back with an electrical cord, and she had been strangled with the shoulder strap of her handbag.
