On July 22, 1997, the State filed a petition alleging that the respondent, Steve Dinwiddie, was a sexually dangerous person pursuant to the Sexually Dangerous Persons Act (725 ILCS 205/0.01 et seq. (West 1996)). A jury found respondent to be a sexually dangerous person, and the trial court ordered respondent committed.
