After a jury trial in January 1997 defendant Edgar Ross was found guilty of the first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1-(a),(1), 5/9-1-(a)(2) (West 1994)) of Henry Johnson. The court entered judgment on the verdict and sentenced defendant to 43 years imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).
