The State of North Carolina tried Aaron Pretty in 1991 on charges of first-degree-statutory rape, first-degree-statutory sex offense, taking indecent liberties with a minor, and incest with his five-year-old daughter. Upon his conviction on all charges, the trial judge sentenced him to consecutive-life sentences for the rape and sex offenses, and concurrent sentences of ten years for indecent liberties and fifteen years for incest.
