Jesse Ball filed a postconviction motion for the return of $776 in United States currency in the district court where he had been criminally tried and convicted of drug trafficking offenses. The government argued that the motion should be denied as moot because the currency had been seized by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and was never in the United States government's custody.
