The Briggs & Stratton Corporation fired Thomas Adkins after finding him sleeping at the wheel of his forklift. As it turned out, Adkins may have had a legitimate excuse for dozing off: narcolepsy, a condition characterized by an uncontrollable need for short periods of sleep. But Adkins admitted that the company had no knowledge of the disease when it fired him; in fact, Adkins' narcolepsy wasn't diagnosed until 4 months later...
