Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (CART) organizes "Indy Car" auto races — that is, competitions among cars designed for the Indianapolis 500 and similar, but less famous, events. A share of stock in CART represents not only an investment (and an opportunity to share in whatever profits CART makes) but also a membership, and thus a right to participate in the races.
