Five years ago, a nationwide class action was filed on behalf of hemophiliacs who had been infected in the early 1980s with AIDS virus (HIV) contained in blood solids manufactured and sold by the defendant drug companies for the treatment of hemophilia. Blood solids are manufactured from blood sold or donated to blood banks, and the defendants had failed either to screen the blood for HIV or to process the blood in a way that would kill any HIV...
