The defendant, Timothy Cunningham, was charged with aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/12-4 (West 1994)). Proceeding pro se, he entered into a plea agreement which provided that he would plead guilty in exchange for a five-year prison sentence to be served consecutively to a 15-year sentence imposed in another case.
