On October 24, 1995, the defendant was charged by bill of information with two counts of theft of a vehicle valued in excess of $500.00, violations of La.R.S. 14:67. The defendant pled not guilty to both charges. A jury found defendant guilty on both counts. On November 26, 1996, the defendant was sentenced as a habitual offender, third offense, to ten years at hard labor on each count, to run consecutive to any previously imposed sentence.
