Following a trial in the circuit court of Cook County, a jury found the defendant, Darrin Shatner, guilty of first degree murder, armed robbery, and arson. The defendant waived the jury for his sentencing hearing. The trial court found defendant eligible for the death penalty based on the aggravating factor that he killed the victim in the course of another felony. 720 ILCS 5/9-1(b)(6) (West 1994).
