The defendant, Steven L. Pierce, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2) (West 1994)), driving while license suspended (625 ILCS 5/6-303(a) (West 1994)) and failure to use lights when required (625 ILCS 5/12-201(b) (West 1994)). The trial court granted the defendant's motion to suppress a statement which he made after he was put in custody but prior to the police...
