On February 13, 1992, plaintiff Gerald F. Delaney (hereinafter plaintiff) underwent an abdominal perineal resection at defendant Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center (hereinafter the hospital). In the course of the surgery, six to eight feet of surgical gauze packing was placed into the perineal wound to aid in the healing process.
