CARNES, Circuit Judge:

Robert Waites Guthrie pleaded conditionally guilty to charges that he took, possessed, sold, and transported Alabama red-bellied turtles (Pseudemys alabamensis) in violation of the Endangered Species Act, 16 U.S.C. §§ 1531 et seq. ("ESA"), and that he conspired to sell alligator snapping turtles (Macroclemys temminicki) in violation of the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981, 16 U.S.C. §§ 3371 et seq.
