On October 3, 1992, DePue was involved in a one-vehicle accident and taken to the hospital. The Ohio State Patrol investigated the accident and seized two guns, a .357 caliber Ruger Black Hawk pistol and a .45 caliber Ruger Black Hawk pistol, found in DePue's vehicle.
