This case involves an apparent conflict between a criminal defendant's constitutional right to effective cross-examination and the inherent power of a trial court to direct the scope of cross-examination. The vehicle for this review is the appeal of Clinton Pierce, who contests his conviction of Attempted Murder1 and two counts of Battery2, both Class C felonies.
