BACKGROUND

John Manuel was injured when the automobile he was driving collided with a vehicle driven by an Iberville Parish Sheriff's Deputy. It is uncontroverted that the deputy was at fault in causing the collision, and that at the time of the accident, the deputy was within the course and scope of his employment with the sheriff's department. The accident occurred on March 11, 1988. John and Patricia Manuel subsequently filed suit...
