Justice STOUDER delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a bench trial, the defendant, Michael Robinson, was found guilty of armed violence (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, pars. 12-4(a), 33A-2). The trial court found him not guilty of attempt murder. Following a sentencing hearing, the defendant was sentenced to a 6-year prison term. He appeals.
