George A. Hormel & Company fired Robert Langemeier for supporting a consumer boycott of Hormel's products. Langemeier, who denied that he had supported the boycott, complained to the National Labor Relations Board that Hormel fired him for engaging in union activities protected by § 7 of the National Labor Relations Act.
