Following a bench trial in the circuit court of Lake County, defendant, Shaster Smith, was convicted of armed robbery (Ill. Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 18-2) of a cab driver, attempted armed robbery (Ill.Rev. Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 8-4) of a jewelry store, unlawful use of weapons by a felon (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 24-1.1), and aggravated assault (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 12-2).
