Clinton Jackson, his brother Billie J. Jackson, and Dale Smith were charged in a single indictment with kidnapping in the first degree. This crime involved the kidnapping of Thomas W. Salo, the vice president of the First Alabama Bank of Evergreen. All three defendants were jointly tried. Clinton Jackson and Smith were convicted for kidnapping in the first degree.
