Spencer Parker was employed by Rowan Companies, Inc. (Rowan) as a crew member of Rowan Louisiana Rig # 16. On January 20, 1990, while working on the rig, Parker was involved in an accident that caused severe injuries to his hand. He sued Rowan in state court in a petition entitled "Petition for Damages under the Jones Act and General Maritime Law."
