After a trial by jury in the circuit court of Sangamon County, defendant was convicted on April 25, 1990, of the offense of controlled substance trafficking (Ill.Rev. Stat.1987, ch. 56½, par. 1401.1(a)). On June 22, 1990, the court sentenced him to 12 years' imprisonment and 3 years' mandatory supervised release.
