This case presents us with two issues concerning the liability of a hospital for alleged negligent conduct by physicians with staff privileges and other professionals caring for patients on its premises. First, we are asked to determine whether, and under what circumstances, a hospital may be liable for the negligence of the physicians to which it has granted staff privileges (and who are frequently referred to as "staff physicians").
