A jury convicted Charles Clark of attempted rape, battery and intimidation in connection with the rape and beating of a woman in Indiana. After filing several post-trial motions and unsuccessful appeals to Indiana state courts, Clark petitioned a federal district court for habeas corpus relief pursuant to 28 U.S.C. section 2254.
