Ronald Thompson, an Amoco dealer since 1972, moved his residence approximately three hundred miles away from Normal, Illinois, where he owned a service station, to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Upon learning of the move, Amoco officials became concerned that Thompson's physical absence from the station would result in a loss of customer goodwill and a decline in profits. They became so concerned that they terminated Amoco's franchise agreement...
