The defendant, Wayne Encalarde, was charged by bill of indictment on October 13, 1988, with manslaughter of his former wife, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31. Trial began on May 2, 1990 and lasted through May 9, 1990 (approximately six full days of trial and one, one-half day of trial).
