The defendant, Van Douglas Hudson, was indicted with the second degree murder of Jack Mulkey, in violation of LSA R.S. 14:30.1. He entered a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Initially the trial court found the defendant lacked the mental capacity to proceed and committed him to the Feliciana Forensic Facility.
