Veneta L. Brown sued The Crescent Stores, Inc., for personal injuries she sustained when she fell in an automatic elevator owned and operated by The Crescent in Spokane. Otis Elevator Company, which maintained and repaired the elevators, was joined as a third party defendant by The Crescent. The Crescent and Otis in turn moved for summary judgment of dismissal.
