On October 6, 1987, a $400,000 verdict was returned in favor of Geraldine Layne who had claimed that she had contracted mesothelioma during her employment as a word processor from 1973 until 1985 in the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Office Building in Cleveland, Ohio.
