This consolidated action arises out of an accident involving the rupture of a liquid ammonia pipeline located in a rural part of Jackson Parish near Cartwright, Louisiana. The accident occurred on May 27, 1981 when an employee of Shelby County Construction Services, Inc. ("Shelby County") struck and punctured the pipeline while operating a bulldozer.
