At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 1986, Deputies Myers and Iliano of the Lake County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to investigate a complaint of a loud party on Meigs Avenue in Painesville Township. While heading east on Meigs, the deputies observed a line of cars parked along the southern edge of the road. Near the western end of this line was a 1978 two-door Ford.
