On January 8 and November 5, 1984, devout football fans were met with a competing religion when appellants, Rollen F. Stewart and Stephen D. Francis, posted large banners reading "John 3:16"1 on the railings behind the 20-yard line at Washington, D.C.'s Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium ("RFK Stadium") just prior to the beginning of televised Redskins football...
