Following a jury trial in the Circuit Court of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, petitioners Ralph and Carol Buelow were convicted of arson and sentenced to ten years in prison. They appealed their convictions on two sixth amendment grounds: denial of their right to confront witnesses against them, and deprivation of the right to counsel due to an improper finding of nonindigency.
