The defendant Garold Bates was indicted for the aggravated rape of an 85-year old woman. A jury returned a verdict of guilty of forcible rape. The court sentenced Bates to serve 30 years at hard labor, five years of which is to be served without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
