James Ryan appeals from his conviction for making false statements to a federally insured bank in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1014 (1982) ("§ 1014"). In this appeal we must consider 1) whether an arguably true answer to an ambiguous question on a loan application can form the basis of a conviction under § 1014, 2) whether an ambiguous answer to an unambiguous question on a loan application...
