At about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, 1986, Stephen M. Wright drove his automobile off the right side of the road and struck a parked car in the rear. Miami Township Patrolman Nicholas Foote arrived on the scene less than ten minutes later. Foote asked Wright twice if he needed medical attention, as Wright had sustained some minor injuries. Wright refused medical treatment.
