On January 24, 1984, the defendant, Lester Sumler, was charged by bill of information with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in violation of R.S. 14:95.1. He was arraigned on February 3, 1984 and plead not guilty. However, on July 12, 1984 he withdrew this plea and entered an unconditional plea of guilty as charged. On August 13, 1984, he was sentenced to serve three years in the custody of the Louisiana Department...
